Dr. O’Brien is originally from the Philadelphia area. She developed an early interest in colorectal surgery through mentorship with colorectal leaders in Philadelphia who were performing innovative, cutting-edge procedures for rectal cancer, providing an experience that helped shape her career path.
She is board certified in both General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery and is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons. Her training and clinical experience allow her to offer comprehensive, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of colorectal conditions.
Dr. O’Brien is deeply committed to patient-centered care and believes that listening to patients is fundamental for excellent outcomes. She prioritizes clear communication so patients feel heard, informed, and confident in their treatment plan. By helping patients understand their diagnosis, the surgical approach, and recovery expectations, she strives to create a collaborative environment that supports both physical healing and peace of mind. For patients with colorectal cancer, she emphasizes reassurance and advanced care, including multidisciplinary treatment planning, sphincter-preserving techniques, and minimally invasive robotic surgery, supported by her extensive clinical experience.
Outside of medicine, Dr. O’Brien enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She also finds joy in playing the piano, reading, cooking, and traveling.
